Poor Simon Belmont and the whole Belmont clan, they’re just as forcibly immortal as ol’ Dracula himself.
My first exposure to Castlevania was the GameBoy version, which I loved to bits thanks to the way you could play four separate levels in any order which my low attention span really appreciated. After that I tried the Commodore 64 version of the original, and it was terrible, woefully bad. Only just recently have I played the original NES game and found a lovely little platformer that was of course way too hard for my old bones, but I can see why it was such a big deal back in the day.
Never did like how all the enemies just kept spawning and spawning and spawning, that always felt cheap, but what made it really bad is that little design flaw has kept coming back over and over again even on systems that couldn’t use a lack of RAM as an excuse for this. Agh! Stupid game developers!
