Mario Golf might seem like a silly idea at first, but it’s actually pretty brilliant.

Golf is fun to play in a video game, and Mario is always good, so how can it now be worth your time? The Nintendo 64 Mario Golf was OK I guess, but I can’t recommend the Game Boy Color version highly enough, for some reason that one just got me in a big way and wouldn’t let go for months. The RPG mode added so much to the regular game. I guess it also helped that when I first got it I was on a few international flights and we didn’t have in-flight wifi or whatever back then, so it was 10 hours of me with a Game Boy Color trying not bother the passenger next to me with that dinky little LED light thing that you plugged into the top so you could play in the dark.

Man, I was gutted when the save battery failed on me after I unlocked the final course, and haven’t had the heart to go back. Maybe one day…
