Another month, another big bunch of retrogaming-related Kickstarters!
Big apologies to all the games journalists out there who are wringing their hands in worry and getting the vapours when thinking about how Kickstarter is just being used to remake old games, I’m really sorry people are making things I think are worth my money. Next time I’ll wait until you officially endorse something before I get any enjoyment out of it.
ANYWAY! Here’s some new Kickstarter projects I think are really neat, and maybe you will too:
The GameStick takes the Ouya idea of making an Android-based console and shrinks it down even further with basically nothing but your little controller (think a NES pad with some analog sticks bolted on) and a little dongle that plugs into your TV. I think it looks cute as all heck! I think devices like this are going to have a huge impact on the way we play games in the future, and will make the idea of dropping $500+ on a big-name console look like a risky proposition next year.
Gametron 1000 is a really neat idea that actually seems to work – a self-generating retrogame system that keeps making new games from randomised ingredients. I’ve toyed with something like this on paper back in the day and I have to give these guys serious props for actually making it look like it will be a lot of fun. Yeah, I’ll be down for this one.
Finally it’s not a video game but man I played a ton of Tunnels & Trolls when I was a lonely little lad in my bedroom, and they’re bringing the gang back together to do a new version. I hope they include some more solitaire adventures, that was what made this better than Dungeons & Dragons in my eyes.
Check ‘em all out, maybe you’ll like what you see!
